The Rational Standard (RS) is an online news and libertarian opinion platform that describes itself as representing “a provocative mixture of analysis and news commentary which provides an alternative to the mainstream media. Unlike the mainstream, RS embraces and is open about our approach – our ‘bias’ – we value individual freedom, and our articles and reports reflect that.” (Rational Standard 2015). It was co-founded by Nicholas Woode-Smith and Martin van Staden, former Students For Liberty activists, in 2016 (Kavuka 2017; Sayyid 2019). As of 31 October 2018, Rational Standard has been part of the international Being Libertarian LLC group of publications (Van Staden 2018a).
In 2017, RS published Fallism: One Year of Rational Commentary, a compilation of essays by opponents of the 2015-2016 student fallist movement (Rational Standard 2017).
